How you rate this hotel depends on where you're from (Kamaaina), your history with Pagoda and your understanding of the global economy. True the lobby was redone and looks modern. The rooms have been maintained as is financially possible. If you don't spend a lot of time in your room, Pagoda is still a fair place to stay. If you're use to Las Vegas luxury at The Cosmopolitan, then this is not the place for you. Don Quixote's is a block away, Ross's is across the street. Walmart is down the block. Ala Moana is 2 blocks away. What Pagoda lacks in luxury it makes up for in location. Yes in the 80's Pagoda was the go-to place for residents from other islands. Th But as mentioned, us locals could walk to everywhere. Even if you wanted to walk from your hotel room to Waikiki beach, it is only 1.8 miles which takes you over the Ala Wai bridge. In this review I want to acknowledge the staff that work at the Pagoda Floating Restaurant and Catering. Right now they are trying to reestablish the restaurant side. They have a temporary area off to the side, in the back of the hotel parking lot area. Admittedly the area isn't something to behold but the food is excellent. The morning staff on June 13, 2022 were incredibly accommodating. Our waitress/host was Rayna. OMG it was talking with my crazy funny sister-in-law. All the staff that morning were VERY attentive. They must have fine-dining experience or they should easily be working at some up scale eatery, like a Gordon Ramsey or Spago.

Where the locals stay!! Pagoda hotel has always been the comfort blankie of hotels for outer island locals. Yes, the hotel is old, but its familiarity is part of its charm. I heard from others to stay away due to lack of cleanliness and critters, but my stay was quite pleasant, my room was clean and I didn't see any bugs during my whole stay. I was even told the carpet was still a bit wet due to a shampoo. I'm a simple gal and it had the basic amenities I look for....comfortable bed, hot water and a good shower head. Some highlights of this hotel... Location! Location! Location! It's walking distance to Ala Moana shopping center and beach, Donki, Walmart, Ross Dress for less. $5 breakfast coupons (substantial breakfast plates for $5) Fish feeding...free fish food at front desk to feed the koi. DVD rental machine- to keep the kids occupied. $29 a night parking..seriously, with other hotels charging $50 plus..this is quite affordable. Friendly staff, quickly responsive when we asked for extra towels. I took one star off cause I still find it a bit pricey for an older hotel even with Kama'aina rate but I will stay here again.
